Problem:
Stats file suddenly displays on my web browser instead of asking me to whether I
want to save it to disk.
Answer:
This problem is usually seen with the Internet Explorer web browse, and has also
been reported with certain versions of America Online. We recently moved to a new
web server. This server is run by Microsoft web server software which works
"behind the scenes" with Internet Explorer to determine that the file you are
request is actually a text file. Internet Explorer then displays the file on your
screen.
To save the file, wait for it to completely load on your browser, then locate the file menu at the top of your web browser and select FILE, then SAVE AS. When prompted, select the appropriate folder in which to save the file, verify that the filename is correct, and most importantly, make sure the "Save as type: " box says "Text file (*.txt)" and not HTML.
This will properly save the file in the destination folder using the filename you specified using the correct format (text).
Alternate Solution:
Some users have solved the problem by using the Windows Explorer to associate the .nfl file extension with an application. If .nfl files, for example, are associated with Microsoft Excel, the "File Download" dialog box will appear when you click on the hyperlink to any stats file that ends with a .nfl extension.
Additional note: Some users are experiencing problems with some football software packages when they go to read the stats file. In most of these cases, the web browser inserted an extra blank line at the top of the file when it saved the file. Use any standard text editor (Windows Notepad, for example) to open the stats file. The first line should not be a blank line. See the list below for what the first line of your file should look like.
For the FFLO format (99WKxxFC.NFL), the first line should look like this:
FFLO 1999 Week 04
For the Generic Offensive player format (99WKxxGO.NFL), the first line should
look like this:
; 1999 NFL offensive stats - Generic Format Week 4
For the Generic Defensive player format (99WKxxGD.NFL), the first line should
look like this:
; 1999 NFL defensive stats - Generic Format Week 4
For the Generic Team stats format (99WKxxGT.NFL), the first line should look
like this:
; NFL Defensive Team Stats - Generic Format
For the Kommish format (99WKxxK.NFL), the first line should look like this:
; 1999 NFL Kommish stats - Generic Format WEEK04
